Academic Credit: ILISA

Overview

Academic Credit is available at any one of the programs offered through A2Z Languages. Students who participate in programs offered by A2Z Languages have a variety of places and options related to academic credit. Please Note: Different Spanish language schools have different types of academic credit available.

Options

Please read the following options carefully to find out which one is most appropriate for you!

  • Check with your Spanish Language Department or Study Abroad Office to find out what they require in order for you to receive credit. Note: Many of our Spanish language schools have agreements with various colleges and universities. Check with your language department or study abroad office to see if there is an agreement in place. This is the best option.

  • You can also choose one of our Spanish language programs that have been approved by the University of Southern Mississippi. The following is a list of schools and the countries in which they reside which currently have a relationship with the University of Southern Mississippi.
    • Argentina: ILEE
    • Costa Rica: ILISA, CPI
    • Chile: Linguatec
    • Guatemala: Casa de Español Xelajú
    • Ecuador: Academia Latinoamericana
    • Mexico: Baden Powell (Morelia)
    • Spain: don Quijote (Barcelona, Salamanca, Granada, Tenerife, Madrid), CLIC, Lacunza

Students participating in programs at any of the above listed Spanish language schools may earn 3-12 undergraduate semester hours or 3-9 graduate semester hours of Spanish credit though an arrangement with the University of Southern Mississippi, a university accredited with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

It is required that students make all arrangements directly with USM prior to starting their Spanish language program. Before departure students must submit a transcript of their college work to USM which reflects any prior Spanish study. USM will send you instructions that must be followed exactly in order to receive credit. You must also talk with the academic coordinator at the Spanish language school you are studying at during the first week of your program.

Grades are posted at the end of December, May and August. Decisions regarding specific course number, level and grade will be made by Dr. Rafael Sánchez, Chairman of the Department of Foreign Languages at USM.

Duration Of Course And Course Costs For USM

The Spanish language program you are enrolling in must consist of at least 20 hours per week of classroom time. Taking more hours of class per week will not reduce the time requirements needed to receive academic credit.

Important: Participants pay standard Spanish language program fees directly to A2Z Languages. In addition, you will need to pay the following fees directly to the University of Southern Mississippi.
