Manuel Antonio National Park

This popular and impressive national park was established in 1972. Costa Ricans felt it was important to preserve that natural beauty within the country. Today this park is considered one of the most beautiful and bio-diverse areas not only within Costa Rica, but in the world. The park is one of the smaller national parks within Costa Rica, but is easily one of the most popular with local and visitor alike.

What makes Manuel Antonio so special relates to the fact that the park offers lush rainforest, pristine beaches, and corral reefs. The rainforest is home a wide range of species including monkeys, sloths, iguanas, land crabs, toucans, parrots, and much more. There are numerous trails through the park which is a great way to explore the area and see the wildlife. When you get hot, simple rest for awhile on one of the many secluded beaches found throughout the park.

GETTING THERE

Manuel Antonio is located just a couple of miles down the road from Quepos. Homes, hotels, restaurants, and shops line the road between the two areas. There are both taxis and buses that travel back and forth all day long, and as such, transportation in the area is not a problem.

Getting to Manuel Antonio from San Jose is easy. There are numerous buses running every day, starting early in the morning and running throughout the day. If you are really in a hurry it is possible to take a 30 minute flight from San Jose.
