Arenal Volcano
Arenal Volcano is one of 7 active
volcanoes in Costa Rica. Additionally Arenal Volcano is considered
to be one of the 10 most active volcanoes found anywhere in the
world.
For hundreds of years Arenal
Volcano lie dormant. This changed in 1968 when an earthquake triggered
a major eruption that wiped out the town of Arenal and killed 87
people.
Today the volcano has minor eruptions
every 5-10 minutes which is an amazing site to see. During the day
you mainly see clouds of steam bellowing out of the top of the volcano.
During the night however when everything is dark, you can see red
hot lava and lava boulders streaming out of the crater. There are
many vantage points surrounding the volcano where you can relax
and watch one of the most incredible sites you are likely to ever
see in your lifetime.
You even have a great place to
watch the Arenal Volcano from our Spanish language school in La
Fortuna!
