One
of Argentina’s most well known cultural contribution to
the world is the Tango. Today this dance style is regarded by
many to be the best representation of the Latin style of dancing.
The music and dance style will emphasize loneliness, desire, despair,
passion and jealousy, and of course machismo.
In the late 1800’s in
the brothers, bars and gambling houses located in Buenos Aires
men spent time socializing with women if ill repute. Over time
this gave rise to a new dance and musical style know as Tango.
At the time when this style of dance came about it was considered
to be scandalous.
Despite its scandalous beginnings, by the early
1900’s Tango was becoming very popular in cities such as
Paris, London and New York. What was initially rejected by the
Argentine elite was now accepted with pride. Throughout the 1920’s
and 1930’s the music and dance style was popularized through
movies, etc.
Today there are many places you can go in Buenos
Aires to learn, watch and enjoy the Tango. Check with the Spanish
language school if you want to take some classes or to find the
best places to go in Buenos Aires to experience the Tango.
