The national pastime of Argentina is most definitely soccer or futbol as it is known in Latin America. Throughout the years Argentina has fielded some of the best soccer teams in international play. Argentina won the World Cup in both 1978 and in 1986. Today Buenos Aires is home to many different first division clubs, two of the more famous being Boca Juniors and River.

For a traditional sport check out pato. The Spanish language institute can show you where these games are played. It is similar to polo in the sense that it is played on horseback. Basketball is also increasing popular in Argentina and today more players are doing well on the international stage with a couple of great players playing in the NBA.
