Buenos
Aires is one of the main cities in South America and is the
center of political, economic and cultural life in Argentina.
You will find streets teeming with people during all hours of
the night and day. Buses, trolleys and cars seem to race around
the vast boulevards at reckless speeds while an extensive metro
systems runs efficiently underground. Despite the massive size
of the city and the constant hum of activity it is easy to get
away from it all in one of the many green parks and plazas dotted
throughout the city.

Porteños. The people who live in Buenos Aires come from
very diverse backgrounds, many of which trace their ancestry
back to Europe. Interesting in many neighborhoods it is common
to see German and Italian names outnumber typical Spanish names.
The past immigrants brought their own cultures, food, art etc
which has blended into today what is distinctly that of Buenos
Aires. The average person from Buenos Aires is very involved
in the culture and life of this fascinating city.
Buenos
Aires is comprised of many small neighborhoods and quaint little
areas. Each area of the city has a very distinct character.
It is not uncommon to find 19th century houses, old tango bars
right around the corner for ultra modern skyscrapers.
Each neighborhood in Buenos Aries is typically
small and distinct. Travel to the San Telmo district and you will
clearly see the multicultural heritage expressed in Spanish style
colonial buildings detailed with Italian and French styling. Moving
on to La Boca you will see colorful houses and buildings and nice
outdoor cafes and markets. No matter where you go in Buenos Aires
you will discover something interesting.
The inhabitants of Buenos Aires are lovers of
food. Above all, beef is the favorite and will be typically eaten
during both lunch and dinner. You will find vegetables and fruits
to be plentiful and tasty. Deserts such as dulce de leche are
ever popular. Meals are typically accompanied with some excellent
local wines and fresh bread. A cup of coffee to finish a meal
and you are on your way. You will find meal times to be late and
leisurely. Dinner in many places is served at 10 pm and many people
will take time off in the afternoon for a relaxing lunch.
You might say that everything that is Argentina is present
somewhere in Buenos Aires. One of the best expressions of Argentina
might be Tango, the national dance of the country. This exotic
dance is practiced everywhere and is an interesting combination
of passion and elegant reserve.
